    Gavins 1st Birthday

Turns out the second child does get cheated out of a lot right off the bat :(  I haven't had a chance to update pics or blog since January...back when Gavin was 9 months old. Sorry buddy. Little Gavin has hit the single digit marker - he turned 1 last week!  We had a great little birthday party for him at home with lots of balloons, friends and family. Thanks Grammy and Mike for making the trek for the party. It goes without saying that we have our hands full now with a 1 and 2 year old. Gavin is close to walking, but has no problem climbing up the stairs when we forget to put up the gate (thankfully Big Brother...aka Gabe likes to tattletale already so we get a heads up really quick that Gavin is climbing up the stairs). Personality wise our two sons are day and night. Life will be interesting and fun with these two! Gavin is the jokester already and has a hilarious cheesy smile (see new pics) and Gabe is pretty much ready to write his college entrance paper...alright he can only write A, M, O, P, T and sometimes a Y...but you get the picture. Ahhhh...and Gabe is getting his bilingual skills down - sweet- Thanks Abuelos :) Ken is off enjoying his first guys trip and I'm doing so much home redecorating while he is gone; hope he doesn't trip over the new furniture! I'm still working (thankfully) and have gotten a chance to do a bit of traveling for work, which have  actually been nice little vacations from diapers and bottles. I cut my hair super short - not loving it, but it wil grow out. I'm just happy I got the nerves to chop it all off once in my life. Hope you enjoy the pics...and as always drop us a line to let us know how you are doing.

    No fair...time is flying by

Gabe turned 2 last month and lil Gavin will be 9 months tomorrow. How can time be going by so quickly? Was I just not crying my eyeballs out to get out of maternity clothes (for the first time in 2 years) and now I'm lugging around two 20lbs+ kids up and down the stairs at home. Oh my! Gabe is such a sweet boy, I must admit. He is very tender hearted towards his brother - puts his smoothie (pacifier) in his mouth for him, gets him baby toys, and is even willing to try and pick up the car seat - with Gavin in it! - but says 'heavy, heavy'. At most his terrible twos have amounted to screaming like he is being abducted when we are in public, but thankfully that doesn't last too long. No body slamming on the floor (yet?). He is just precious. I can say that, he is my son. Then our lil tubby Gavin (said with only love) is doing really good. He has the backward moon crawl down pat, has the BEST belly laugh I've ever heard and is mesmerized by his big brother. I know you are not supposed to compare you kids as a parent, but there are almost no similar 'milestones achieved' by both of these brothers. What it took Gabe a year + to do, Gavin is steamrolling past them at about 4 months earlier. Like he already sprouted his first 2 teeth, is rolling/crawling around everyone and can sometimes share his brothers 18+ month clothes. Our little tubby will see many days in the Sears Husky dept. I love you Gavin...just don't read this when you are older :o) If you want to know how my parents are doing up in WA...well, let's just say I was wondering today if there is any chance I can ask them for a brother or sister now. Someone to help take the load off of me for awhile. What do they call this stage - the sandwich generation? Taking care of my own children and my parents (to a certain extent) is a bit overwhelming. But you know me...I will do it with a smile and a glass of wine in the other hand. If you read this and love me, just say a little prayer for me - I would appreciate it. Ken told me today we might be heading down to Cali in May for Grandpa Hernandezs' birthday. This could actually be very cool - Gabe and Gavin's great grandparents (all 4 of them) are in Cali and we can take once in a lifetime pics with them. Oh yea..and see all of you guys in CA!

    The boys are growing...growing....growing!

We are almost to the six month mark with Gavin and Gabe is going to be 22 months - the time is flying by!!!  Halloween (or as I like to refer to it as Fall Festival...Kenny hates that I say that) went great. Gabe was a magnificent looking Dinosaur and little Gavin was a tiger (geez...I wonder where I've seen that costume before??? oh yea...last year it was Gabes costume).   Check out the Halloween pics! And if you check out the first album Gabe 10-12months, you'll see Gabe in the same Tiger costume last Halloween.   Speaking of Gavin wearing his brothers clothes...it looks like Gavin may soon be giving Gabe HIS handme down clothes. What you ask??? Gavin is only 5+ months...how can he give Gabe clothes?  Well, you see little g packs a punch in lbs - 18lbs at last check and his older brother is only at 25lbs.  7 lbs doesn't sound too bad...but when you figure that Gavin adds 2 lbs a month ~ well it may only take 3 more months for Gavin to catch up with his bro. Oh Geez :o)  Gabe is coming out of his shy shell one step at a time. He hangs with his buddies Zach and Joe on Mondays, then is a big boy and goes to church for about 2 hours and plays with the kids  (with no crying for mom or dad), and of course loves to spend time with his abuelos! He even had a slumber party at their house several weeks ago. OUr little boy is growing up!  And next week, Ken and Gabe are heading to sunny AZ for several days to visit Grammy. How fun! Their first annual daddy and son trip.  Mommy and Gavin are staying in WA for a little mommy and son bonding time :o)

    The magical 4 month milestone...

Yes, I know...what happened to Gavin's 3rd month? - Here it is in a nutshell - wah, wah, poop, wah, wah, smile (finally!). And several many bottles too. So today is his official 4 month birthday!!  And all of a sudden he has gotten a personality, is smiling, is cooing, and is more fun...even for Gabe!  We have seen some 6-7 hour stretches of sleep in the last couple of weeks...not all in a row...but at least twice a week he sleeps through the night.  And tonight I started him on a new sleep schedule to see if we can all get some more zzz's around this place. Wish us luck...we need it.  And as I'm writing this I can tell you it's working...at least the last 15 minutes it has :o)   KEGG family update ~ Ken turns thirty something this upcoming week, Gabe is 20 months and is still a sweetheart (mushed in with some silly tantrum outburts), Gavin is growing leap and bounds and has beautiful eyes and super chubby cheeks and I just got a huge haircut ~ super short and I love it!  We took a gamble on a day trip to Friday HArbor a couple of Saturdays ago...and I say gamble because it was a 13 hour trip (7 hours RT on a boat and 5 on land - with no car...just our feet and a stroller).  And thank you Jesus...we all did great and there were no meltdowns...not even from Ken!  It was a beautiful trip and the sky and water were a perfect color blue.  As boring as that sounds...that was our summer vacation.  With a newborn and a young toddler...we just didn't have the energy to plan much else this summer. We did make it to the zoo and also Pike Place market. Super low key, huh?  Oh well...there was a lot going on otherwise to keep us busy (work, my parents, my parents, my parents...j/k...kinda). A special KEGG shout out to Grammy Lorraine for coming up in August. I can't really say she was visiting, since the poor thing hardly left our house because she was helping watch the kids while I went down to LA for work for several days. Thank you thank you Lorraine!  Well...there is probably lots more I can write about..but you get the gist of it. Kids, work, little sleep, messy house, starting to rain in Seattle, need to lose baby weight, still driving the minivan, etc. We're here...give us a call!
    July 29

We made it to 2 months

That's how we feel...it's been quite a long 8 weeks for us having the newborn scream his head off all day...and almost all night, but we are happy to say that God heard our prayers and calmed Gavin's screams. God and a swing were our miracle cures!  We borrowed a swing from our friends (thanks Kangs!) and for 8 weeks we kept trying to put Gavin in the swing. Wah, wah, wah. So we would take him out after 2 minutes. In my sleep depreviated state I decided what the heck, let's buy a swing that sways from side to side instead of just front to back - something has to work so we can put this chunky monkey down for several minutes to get a break.  And woulnd't you know it...the first 5 minutes in the side to side swing he fell asleep! I'm not kidding! And where is he right this minute, while I"m typing this??? In the swing - ASLEEP!  Amazing..best $75 I will ever spend...make that the next best $75 I will spend after I spend it on birth control (ha!). Gavin blessed us not only with a lot less crying, but we have been getting good chunks of sleep at night and he is smiling and cooing. Super cute!  I think Ken and I can now see the ray of hope with two kids. It's not going to be easy...  Gabe is doing great. He found his outtie belly button and is proud to show it off! He is now a year and a half and is getting more and more independent. Thankfully no tantrums yet, but we have had to put into practice "time outs" on occassion. Ohh...I hear some crying ~ gotta run!
    July 02

Who are we? Where are we? What day is it?

So that title pretty much sums up how we have been doing up here...we are dazed and confused!  Whoever said having two kids is just 'twice' the work was lying. It's more like quadruple the work!!! Lots of crying, no sleep, grab and go meals (meals sounds like we are sitting down to eat...let's say grab and go one handed food), lots of diapers, and did I already mention no sleep?? If it sounds like I'm not enjoying myself ~ well I can't say that I"ve hit the enjoyment part of this newborn/toddler adventure yet. It's alot of hard work, even when Ken was home for a whole month after Gavin was born. And now that I'm on my own with the boys, it's taking it day by day to get used to our new extended family.  But besides my gripping, the boys are great! Gavin is 6 weeks old (thanks Julie for reminding me how old my son was); he loves to be held all the time and has his days and nights mixed up.  We think he looks like Ken (whew, thank goodness!) but he has his moments where he is a spitting image of Gabe as a newborn.  Gavin is more alert nowadays and is quite the chunky monkey - he gained 2+ lbs his first month!!! Gabe is being a super big brother. I can't even begin to write all the wonderful things he is doing with his little bro - but one of the sweetest is when he gives GAvin a hug and a kiss all on his own (without us asking him to). Gabe has only tried to run over Gavin (with his walker) once in the last 6 weeks :o) And he hasn't tried to poke out GAvin's eyes (yet??). Gabe LOVES LoVES to walk and take Minnie out for walks.  We can't believe how big Gabe is - especially when we look at GAvin and can recall Gabe being a newborn...yes, just last year I know I know. So there are lots of other stories to tell, but my free time is up. There's double the laundry, double the housework, double the dishes, and still just my two hands ;o)  I will try my hardest to keep up with the blog for Gavin's first year. Don't want to cheat him out of all your lives :o)  Lots of love to you all!  Send your prayers and well wishes our way for  some sleep and patience as we continue learning how to be parents of two boys under the age of 2.

    Officially the KEGG family

Gavin Joseph was born on Tuesday, May 20th at 7:35pm weighing 8.2lbs!!  Check out the pics in the album. We are so excited to welcome him into our home :o)  As many of you know, I was done being pregnant about 2 months ago so when Tuesday morning came I just knew I had to have that baby that day ~ one week earlier than my due date.  As luck would have it, my doctor also thought I could use some relief and admitted me into the hospital for delivery that Tuesday morning...hallelujah!  That boy has a set of lungs on him. Think high pitch scream/cry combo...my oh my.  Gabe is super sweet with his little brother and is going to make a fabulous big brother!  Oh by the way, Gabe waited to show off his big brother status by taking his first solo steps the day we brought Gavin home. Kinda like a "hey little bro, I'm not going to let you have all the attention on your first day home - check this out, I'm going to walk and steal your thunder" - and that he did :o)  So far we managed our first day at home with two boys under the age of 18 months..with a little help from abuelos.  Here's a funny story from this morning: I went to take a shower and left the 2 boys with daddy. I come down to find ALL the contents of the diaper bag (including every wipe taken out of the wipe holder) spread across the dining room from a certain little boy (who shall remain annonoymous) and daddy and a baby watching tv in the living room. And that is just day one...this is going to be fun.
    April 06

    7 week countdown!!

Whew, I cannot wait to be done with pregnant life. I know its supposed to be a beautiful experience to be making a baby - but c'mon this body needs a break!  Soon enough baby boy will be here and we will all be super excited to welcome him into our family.  Which by the way, if you have not heard has recently grown by 2 1/2 more - besides Ken, Gabe and myself we now have abuelos Porras living in the state of WA. Yup, the move was made this past week (thank you Ken and Andy for driving up in the moving truck) and now we (I) just need to find them a home to call their own.  So far we are all just hanging out at Casa Hernandez - until someone (most likley the pregnant one of the bunch) - has a hormonal breakdown :o)    Gabe is doing fantastic! Loves all the attention he is getting from his abuelos and is growing very fond of Minnie. Not so much Minnie licks, but the concept of someone on ground level with him is fascinating him.  He is hopefully on the verge of walking soon!  I know, I know - don't wish for it because then it will be tough chasing him around - but I'll take that. I'll need to burn off the baby weight somehow!  In other exciting news....we are now part of the mini-van cult. Yup, I said it...mini-van.  Ken and I have officially become full fledged parents. Having one kid we still kinda felt like we could get away with being a couple with a kid in tow, but once you hit the 2 kid family scenario, you've definitely become those crazy parents who drive mini-vans, talk about poop, and the cost of diapers. Good times.  It's not that bad, really. Really, trust me. Seriously. Am I trying to convince you or me at this point???  Stay tuned for the next installment of the KEG update. Will it be KEGG, KEGR, KEGS, KEGN....Lots of love from us to you!

    New year...another new baby

Well, Gabe officially is a toddler now! He turned one on 1/19/08 and had a great little party with his buds to celebrate. Pics coming soon. He was blessed with lots of great gifts that he will get lots of play time with! So we get to put away all those baby clothes, baby toys, baby car seats, baby food, baby...oh wait, the next baby is due in only 4 months! How did that happen ;o) Instead of putting away these things they are just being cleaned up and getting ready for round two! Thankfully we have pretty much all that we need for baby boy on the way (I don't like using the term baby #2 - makes him sound not as important as baby #1). I'm looking forward to getting more use out of the clothes and toys that Gabe quickly outgrew - yeah for another boy! I'm sure we would have been just as excited for a little girl, but maybe next time....WHAT??? Breath...next time may or may not happen for several years down the road (God willing). So if I had to describe my second pregnancy I would say, "I have a fat neck". That's a bummer, but I have to remind myself that a fat neck means I'm feeding the baby well; which I think this one will be an 8 pounder. I day dream about the day I can get into my non pregnant clothes again. Which by the way, getting pregnant twice in 24 months is a great way to conserve the wear and tear on your clothes. Most all of my clothes have been boxed up since mid 2006! When I get to wear them again it will be like I have a whole new wardrobe...and YES I will wear them again...I am going to lose this fat neck (amongst other body parts that need to be 'lost' after the baby is born)!!! While my first pregnancy I was so excited to look cute in my prego clothes, now not so much. I'm trying to not look like a slouch, but comfort overrides cuteness right now. It's ok, i had my moment of cute pregnant glory the first time around. Well, I do have a (little) life outside of being a mom that I would like to share...but as usual my mom duties are calling - or should I say crying from a crib? Hope all is well! I think of you guys often...I really do...and would love to hear from you!

Gabe is going to be a BIG brother

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

In case you haven't heard (or seen my baby belly) - I'm almost 5 months pregnant, due May 08. And we just found out that Gabe is going to have a little brother!  We are absolutely thrilled for the upcoming addition to the KEG family...but just one question - do we continue with the KEG acronym...which means us a boy name that starts with G, R, or S...(KEGG, KEGR, KEGS Hernandez)?  hmmmm, such tough decisions.  I've already envisioned my future with two little tykes 16 months apart...in case you were counting on your fingers...lots of mud in the house, frogs in little boys jeans, and then lots of girls calling in junior high.  Ken is cloud nine with two sons - twice the amount of remote controlled toys to buy for the boys.  So far 'Fabulous Finds' girlie accessories is not anywhere on my horizon with a housefull of boys.  But I do have to admit, even though Gabe can't be dressed up in frilly dresses with bows and leggings, I am finding the cutest beanie hats, funky socks and scarves for the boy to wear :o)  Gabe's first Christmas was blessed with a visit from Grammy Lorraine and Mike who came up from AZ to spend the holidays with us.  They actually got to see a semi white Christmas with a bit of snow falling on them!  Thanks for making the trip up here Ken and I truly appreciated spending time with you guys in our neck of the woods (literally).  Next big event is Gab'es 1st birthday coming up next month - WOW!  Just a year ago I was pregnant..oh wait, I am again - doh!  Ken worked his tail off this past month. He patrols a large mall and got his first taste of crazy holiday shoppers and lets just say I won't be asking him to go hang out at the mall with me anytime soon (speaking of which...he's there right now working).  I'm excited for the new year - lots of stuff happenig. Gabe turns one, my parents will most likely move up to WA in early '08, friends are getting married and are sooo in love right now, lots of my girlfriends are pregnant with their 1st, 2nd and some even with their 3rd babies and are due in the May - August timeframe, our little will join the family and I'll learn how to juggle a toddler and a newborn and Ken will finally see his wife without a pregnant belly in almost 2 years!  Can't wait to share it all with you :o)  God bless you and your families this new year.

    Baby Gabe at 5 months

What a fun little guy!  He smiles and laughs so much - it's so contagious!  Thankfully we are back on a sleeping schedule at night and it's making all of us much happier...including Minnie.  Gabe had a fantastic 4th of July at his first bbq and fireworks show (which he slept through).  And then the next day...my birthday :o) we went out for an all day family outing to Bainbridge Island.  We rode on the ferry, had lunch and went on a small trail hike in a natures reserve, and back on the ferry to come home.  And all the while - no fussy pants - Yahoo!  Poor little Minnie couldn't come along...but she's already been on the ferry lots of times so she didn't miss out on too much. Ken and I are doing great. Getting ready to celebrate our 5th year anniversary on the 12th.  We swear it seems MUCH MUCH longer than that; probably because this year we will have exactly known each other HALF of our entire lives.  We met when we were 16 years old and this year we both turn 32.  Crazy, huh?  Met at 16, started dating when we were 24, got married at 27 and popped out our first kiddo at 31. I guess we like to take certain things a bit slow.  But heck, our decision to move to WA only took about 3 months - from the first time we came up to check it out to the day we actually moved up here (which by the way if you want to know how long you've been missing us in CA, we will be celebrating our 3 year move to WA anniversary on the 9th of July). Work is going good for both of us and we're so looking forward to hanging out with Gabe this summer around the area.  Gabe loves his oatmeal and rice cereal and today we are going to start him on veggies and then some fruit later on this month.  He is doing a great job of sitting up a little on his own and has mastered the roll over on one side technique.  As I write, he is laying in his crib, both legs up in the ear playing with his little rattle on his socks. Too cute, I tell ya!  Enjoy the new pics of baby Gabe!
    June 09

Lots of 'firsts' for baby Gabe!

Finally a quick moment to let you know whats up with us. Gabe is 4 months & 3 weeks and is doing fantastic! He had his first airplane ride down to California to meet lots of family and friends! He meet his Grandpa Hernandez and even got to meet his Great Grandparents Hernandez too. And he got to meet Minnie or better yet, Minnie's licks got to meet Gabe :o) Thanks to everyone who made it out to Gabes welcome parties - it was fantastic to see you! A special thanks for the hosts of the parties - Sharelle and Dan for the great time & food we had at your place in Newport. I was so overjoyed to see everyone - I know you were there to see the baby...but I'm going to think you wanted to see us too :o) And thank you to Tommy & Tracy for accommodating sooo many family and friends at your house. It was great for Ken to see his family and especially those cousins that came out of the wood works to come celebrate Gabes arrival!! Even Grammy made a special trip out to see Gabe from Arizona - thank you! Abuelos Porras were excited to spend time with Gabe - so much so that they are making a trip up in July to see him again...and to probably take Minnie back with them. Which Minnie might like to go back, since her attention getting has been split in half while being up here....oh and I have her on a diet since she is a pound and a half overweight. Grandpa and his 'trick or treats'. Today Gabe had his first taste of cereal - Ken & I had our first taste of what MESS is really going to look like - YIKES! Gabe went to his first wedding last night and did great. He's now also sitting in his activity saucer, grabbing for his toys, and making lots of noise! His smiles are heart melting and his giggles are the sweetest sound I've ever heard. His cries in the middle of the night - well those are a different story. He was sleeping through the night last month (HEAVEN!) and then he decided he didn't want to do that anymore so now we are back to trying to get a good nights sleep. Ken and I are doing well. We were lucky enough to get out for a dinner date last week which was super nice for us - not so super for Mike and Ellen who had to deal with a crying baby for about an hour...sorry guys. But that was probably the best meal we've had in MONTHS! It was a bit surreal to be spending time just the two of us - it helped us put in to perspective where we've been as a couple and now where we're headed as a family. We'll be celebrating our 5 year anniversary this July - WOW! Check out the new pics of the little squirt - he's a cutie!
    April 27

    Yeah for sleep!!

We thought this day would never come...9 hours of solid, continous sleep for the K.E.G family. Thank you Gabe! Randomly one night he slept from 8pm until 5am and ever since then it's pretty much been his new constant sleep pattern. And what do I do while he is sleeping...think it's a good idea to catch up on t.v., my card making, and updating this site...what I really should be doing is catching up on all of my missed zzzzz's from the last several months! Which is what I think I'm going to go do right now...as soon as I catch you up on what's been happening. Ken still loves his job. He has had to work graveyard shifts for the month of April, which hasn't been too fun for me...but thankfully he is going back to the day shift in May. I've been at work for several weeks now. It's great to get out of clothes that have spit up on them and talk to grown ups. The absolute best part is coming home to a smiling baby boy :o) and yes, it's nice to come home to you too Ken (hee, hee). Gabe is talking up a storm and his smiles...oh, his smiles just melt our hearts. He is making lots of noises, especially when he is trying to get our attention. He's a bit of a ham ~ must have gotten that from his dad ~ and keeps us entertained hours on end. Ken is doing an amazing job taking care of Gabe while I'm at work. Lots of great daddy and son time! We are heading to California at the end of May ~ wish us luck on the whole airplane deal. Shouldn't be too bad going down there, but on the way back we are bringing Minnie back with us to Washington, so we will have a yappy dog, a 4 month old and 2 weary eyed parents trying to manage the chaos onboard a plane. Good times. I'm off to catch up on 3 months of sleep...

My life as a rookie mom

For all of you who said I was a 'born natural' mom - do I have some news to tell you...I'm SO not a natural at ths motherhood thing.  Just today I left the house with half the pieces for his bottle and of course when I realized it (when he was hungry and screaming) was way to late. We had to drive all the way home very sad.  Rule #1:  keep spare EVERYTHING in trunk of car.  This was already on top of my embarrasing moment at my employers office where Gabe cried for the entire 10 minutes I was signing paperwork to go back to work. Poor little guy ~ not his day.  The other night I woke up at 2am to a crying baby and couldn't figure out why he was crying - I thought I just fed him an hour ago at 1am.  I rocked him, bounced him, pulled out all the tricks up my sleeve. Then I realized I had fed him at 11pm - 3 hours earlier...not 1 hour like I thought - DOH!!  Rule #2:  it's very important to remember (correct) feeding times.  I should wear my glasses so I can actually see the clock.  But to my defense, waking up at 2am after only sleeping a couple of hours, its hard to remember who/where you are, let alone remember the day and time.  Trust me, there are plenty of other little things that have come up over these past 10 weeks (tomorrow) that were not in any of the books I've read...and Ken will tell you I've read them all practically, but luckily Gabe is still here and hasn't volunatarily adopted himself out of our home yet.  But the Best Rule to always remember is:  Love, Love, Love the little guy always and he'll forgive you for the rookie mistakes :o)

Gabe has started to smile socially and it melts our hearts when he does.  He is 11lbs 11oz and has already outgrown some of his newbie clothes.  I can't wait for all you to meet him down in California.  He's quite the cutie pie!! Just check out the new pics I added (Gabe 2 months). We are hoping to make it back home to see everyone in late May. I'll keep you posted about the Welcome party we are hoping to have for him when we are there.

Keep me posted with how you are doing. I love hearing from you guys!
    March 15

Another month goes by ~ Gabe is 2 months

Another 4 weeks has quickly passed of semi-sleepless nights (longest sleep record is 4.5 hours), lots of feedings and diaper changes and the constant thought of, "when are his parents going to pick him up". Yup, 8 weeks into parenthood and Ken and I are still feeling like - are we ready to be his parents??? Baby Gabe, little man Gabe, muy macho Gabe, pumpkin, sunshine - we sure do have lots of names for him :o) is doing just fine. He is up to 10+lbs, he grew an inch and a half (and in our 'short' little world that's ALOT!) and just had his first series of shots...5 at one time. He is a very cute little person - stubborness and all. He likes to be fed NOW and even has a prentend cry - no tears and just one or two WAH, WAH'S and then he is like, 'oh you didn't buy that cry, ok, I'll stop' - when you take the bottle out of his mouth to burp him. Sneaky little guy...but nonetheless super precious (especially when he is sleeping). I've definitely have found out that this 'motherhood' deal is harder than I thought. Maybe hard isn't the right word...maybe demanding (i.e. 24/7) is a better word, or even Why did I think it was going to be easier? I guess being an only child hasn't really helped - being that it had always been about ME - now Gabe is setting me straight...it's all about him now. I have managed to get a little pampered with a haircut and a brow waxing on my own to try and help me feel a little bit back to my cute self, since my clothes and fashion accessories have taken a back seat to spit up :o) With all this said, Gabe is truly a welcome addition in our lives. Ken and I didn't know we were ready to take the next step in our marriage to become parents, but God had it all planned out for us. He has entrusted us and blessed us with our baby boy and our lives are so much richer with love because of Gabriel. Ken is loving his new department closer to home. He is doing a fantastic job and I am really proud of him for taking on two new jobs almost at the same time - daddy and policeman with a new department (lots of new policies, geography, etc. to learn). I'll be going back to work part time in April - I'm a little sad, nervous and excited all rolled up into one!

    Gabe is 1 month old

Baby Gabe celebrated his first month birthday (with cake and ice cream of course) along with Abuelito & Abuelita Porras last week.  My parents had a ball with their grandson for 2 weeks.  My mom and I even escaped one afternoon to get our hair done - yup, I  got the official 'mom do'.    Yesterday was my official first day being by myself with the baby.  No more in-laws, parents or Ken to bail me out when the baby starts crying - thankfully a friend invited me to my first mommy and me event (i.e. going to the mall, of course) and so I wasn't alone and had great company!  And today baby Gabe is making his debut at my workplace.  Speaking of the little man, he is snuggled up in his carrier on my chest as I write this. He's such a tropper - helping mom do laundry, make the beds and pick up around the house.  These carriers are a life saver!

Ken started his new job yesterday and loves it!  What's not to love when on your first day on the job you go 'shopping' for all new equipment and uniforms - SWEET!  So whenever your in Tukwila, because we know you all hang out there..., look out for Ken, because I'm sure he will be looking out for you (running red lights, speeding).

FYI...this waking up in the middle of the night and early in the morning is tough.  Anyone up for babysitting from 11pm - 6am??  :o)

    ...and then there were 3...

We survived the first week of being home with a newborn, thanks to a good baby and the help of Grammy.  And next week my parents come up for 2 weeks to meet their first grandson - they are extremely excited!  Gabe is doing great - he sleeps in 2.5 hour chunks and gives us a scream when he is hungry or has a wet diaper. Not much other crying than that..thank goodness!  Ken was the first to get baby pee baptized..on the forehead of all places...hee, hee.  We've ventured out to church, the mall and Target (of course) with Gabe - all of which he was fast asleep for all his outings; he probably thinks we are boring parents who only stay at home :o)   Quick update: Ken will be starting his new position with the City of Tukwila in mid-February. We can't even begin to tell you what a huge blessing this is to have him back at home 'full time' and with a good police department that has huge career advancement opportunities available.  Thank you Jesus! As for me...my job right now is full time mommy ~ and I'm loving it!

New pics added to the Gabriel album.  You know the drill - add us to your favorites and check back often for added baby Gabe pictures (I won't always email you when I add new pics).

He was born and the world was a more beautiful place for us...

Baby Gabriel Lucas was born on Friday, January 19 2007 at 6:56AM after an amazing 12 hour labor...can you believe it, only 12 hours from start to finish!!  He weighed 7lbs 14 oz and measured 21 inches.  Pictures in Gabriel photo album.

My water broke on Thursday night around 7PM and after Ken had a small bout of 'Ricky Ricardo' when it was time to leave for the hospital (I swear he almost forgot to take me with him) we were off to Swedish hospital. Ken was an amazing coach during the labor/delivery and is an awesome dad. Ken is absolultely glowing with excitement and love for his son.  I'm doing well - just recouperating and learning about the joy of motherhood (and some of the physical pains...ouch!) and in complete love with Gabriel.  Grammy Lorraine is here to save us newbie parents :o)  And grandpa/grandma Porras are anxiously awaiting to come and see their first grandson in early February.  And Papa Hernandez is thrilled for his newest 'litttle guy'.

More info to come in 'our spare time' - hee, hee

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ~ I have to admit we love to send out Christmas cards and do our fair share of holiday shopping, but this year we had to take a pass. So our holiday cheers come to you via the 'free' internet. With the baby on the way in 25 days - oh, new due date...January 20th, me out of work as of 12/11 (and unemployment hasn't kicked in yet), and trying to transition Ken to his new job, lets just say Top Ramen, rice and beans are on the menu for quite awhile :o) Thank you to many of you for sending us your Christmas cards and gifts - we truly appreciate you remembering us during this holiday season. We'll get back on the ball next year ~ I promise! Ken and I had a very relaxed Christmas; we're trying to make the most out of the last quiet minutes before baby Gabe makes his entrance into our lives. Ken made a fabulous turkey dinner for us all on his own! Definitely one of the perks of being 9 months pregnant is all this wonderful attention I get from him :o) Just so you don't think we were completely alone over the holidays, we were with our church family on Christmas Eve, spent time with my parents' friends who treated us to a wonderful Christmas morning brunch, and met up with friends for Christmas dessert. Hope you had an enjoyable holiday with your family and friends as well. With all the commotion that happened here 2 weeks ago, I'm glad to say it's been pretty quiet these last couple of weeks. I'm definitely in my nesting phase - rearranged items in the kitchen cabinets, moved furniture around, cleaned out the garage, finished painting and decorating the nursery, washed baby clothes, installed the car seat, and the hospital bags are packed (all with Ken's help of course). I think we are as ready as we'll ever be to meet our son soon.

New pics added to the baby photo album. I'm warning you...it's a big baby belly!

Did you hear about the one where Washington lost power after a windstorm?

Not fun at all. After a crazy windstorm on Thursday, Dec 14th with winds up to 60mph, one million+ households lost power (and to this day there are still thousands without power). We lost power at about 1AM on Friday and it didn't come back on until 8AM Monday morning. Thankfully we have friends that came to our rescue. Judy picked me up on Friday morning to go to the grocery store - which was being run on generators) to pick up necessities since the fridge was not an option. Thank you Judy...our snack food was delicious! Then Friday night thru Monday morning we were blessed with the hospitality at the Schroeter Inn - good food & drinks, warmth and some very good sleep for me. Thank you, thank you Ellen & Mike! It was crazy to drive around town with fallen trees, down power lines everywhere, no working stop lights, having to drive 20 minutes to find gas stations - just crazy. We were blessed to be safe and have caring friends during this time :o) On a side note - I did have quite a scare during the height of the storm as I was driving back home from running errands. A transformer blew up right above me and cracked the tree right next to it, which then proceeded to land on my car. Yup...the top of the tree came crashing down and me, baby Gabe and Rosey Cheecks (name of my Volvo) were enclosed in pine branches...smelled really good, but I was a little hysterical as I called 911. We are fine - definitely shaken up that night but thankful that God protects his children. (don't tell my parents...I don't want them to freak out and make us move back to California). Baby Gabe is growing, growing and running out of room inside my belly. Everyone up here thinks I'm going to deliver before January 17th - we'll see. At this point we're ready to meet the little guy :o)
